In our commitment to improve the quality of infant and toddler care; Early Childhood Connections is proud to be a part of the Infant/Toddler Training Program created by the South Dakota Department of Social Services’ Office of Child Care Services. Through a Bush Foundation grant, individuals from our region attended intensive training sessions on the care and development of infants and toddlers. Sessions were taught by West Ed of California, a nonprofit research and development agency dedicated to improving education and opportunities for children.
These individuals now provide training sessions for childcare providers and parents through Early Childhood Connections. Training covers the following topic areas:
- Language and Development
- Fostering Emotional Development
- Routines
- Planning the Environment
- Group Care
- Establishing Partnerships with Parents
By completing 20 hours of Infant/Toddler training, caregivers may qualify for a mini-grant. The mini-grants are awarded by the state Division of Child Care Services to purchase items to improve care for infants and/or toddlers in their program.
SD Infant Toddler Certificate
Caring for infants and toddlers takes a special set of skills and knowledge. The South Dakota Infant Toddler Certificate offers an individual an opportunity to receive training specific to this age group which will allow them to gain a deeper understanding of the significant development which occurs in these early years of life.
