The Play & Learn Library is a unique program that delivers developmentally appropriate curriculum resources directly to the Black Hills early childhood community. These theme tubs can be picked up at ECC or ECC staff will deliver them to your program. Child Care Centers and Family Child Care Providers pay $25.00 for an annual membership. This fee supports the purchase of new tubs, and the upkeep of current tubs.

Transportation
Your children will travel with this one! It contains a large floor mat with trains, cars, traffic signs, people, maps, cameras, phones and puzzles. Watch out for speed bumps!
The Office
This tub contains a complete office including phones, calculators, office supplies, a computer keyboard and writing utensils of all kinds. It is designed to support emerging literacy skills in children ages 3-5 years. NAEYC’s new resource book, Writing in Preschool, (Schickendanz & Casbergue) gives early childhood teachers an excellent tool to help you support and facilitate writing in the early years. Rainy Day Games #2
Our second tub holds a long list of favorites for those long grey, cold, winter days ahead; Trouble, Twister, Mr. Potato Head, Charades for Kids, Ants in the Pants and more! Games provide many opportunities for literacy and social development as children read directions, take turns and interact with other children.
Modeling Mixtures
More recipes than you can imagine will help jumpstart you and your children’s creativity! This tub comes complete with accessories and creative ways to incorporate modeling mixtures of all types to support fine motor skills and creative expression.

We'll wheel this table right to your front door! Adjustable legs allow for greater flexibility.
Puzzle Sets
Fabulous photo images of multicultural families and children with disabilities are featured in two of our sets. Also available with wooden puzzle racks for easy storage.
Babies! Babies! Babies!
This tub contains babies to wash, hold, feed and snuggle! Bottles, beds, baby books and blankets complete the scenario.
Based on a story by Pat Hutchins, this tub is filled with tools for cleaning, scrubbing and ironing. Toddlers love real work - and this tub does the trick!
3 new traveling tubs feature art supplies and activities that will enhance any early childhood setting, making it easy for anyone to set up an art area in their program. The newest publications from NAEYC on the importance of creative art experiences for children are also included.
Tinker Toys and Lincoln Logs
No program is complete without these manipulatives. Small motor and language skills are enhanced when you build and chat with your preschooler builders.
More Information About Theme Tubs
ECC staff have developed a wide selection of curriculum tubs based on age appropriate activities and materials that are designed for especially for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.
Each tub is paired with a bag of children's books that can be checked out with the curriculum tubs. Many of these books can be developed into an "extension" activity to support the play and learning activities.
Coming Soon! 2 new tubs will be available in late January, What Will Happen If? is based on scientific inquiry and will focus on basic science principles of developing a hypothesis, experimentation and conclusion. Including All of Us will support the acceptance of children and adults with different abilities in vision, auditory and mobility impairments.
